About

Maker Mavericks (Grades 6–8): Advanced Coding & Game Development Journey

Maker Mavericks is an engaging and future-focused learning program designed for students in Grades 6–8 who are passionate about technology, creativity, and problem-solving. Through immersive, hands-on weekly classes, students explore the exciting world of coding and game design while developing critical thinking and computational skills that extend beyond the classroom.

The program is structured as a series of 12-week courses with clearly defined levels, allowing students to progress step by step and build a strong foundation before moving on to more advanced concepts. Each level introduces new challenges and opportunities for creativity, ensuring that learners stay motivated and continuously grow their abilities.

In the Python pathway, students advance to higher levels where they begin creating more complex and interactive games. By Level 4, they are working with powerful tools like Pygame to design visually rich and dynamic projects. They explore concepts such as animations, sprite sheets, and pathfinding, enabling them to bring characters and environments to life. Alongside coding, students are introduced to essential development practices like version control using Git and GitHub, helping them organize their work and understand how real-world software projects are managed.

In the Unreal Engine pathway, students dive into professional-grade game development. At advanced levels, they use Unreal Engine’s Blueprint system to design intelligent and responsive gameplay experiences. They learn to build systems that control character behavior, create engaging combat mechanics, and design multi-stage challenges such as boss battles. Throughout the course, students work on structured projects that guide their learning and culminate in a final capstone project, where they apply everything they’ve learned to create a polished and interactive game.

Maker Mavericks emphasizes creativity, collaboration, and innovation. Students are encouraged to experiment, solve problems independently, and think like designers and developers. The program not only builds technical skills but also fosters confidence, persistence, and a growth mindset.

All courses follow a fixed schedule and require enrollment before the start date to ensure a cohesive learning experience for every student. For those interested in exploring the program, trial classes are available, offering a glimpse into the engaging and supportive environment that Maker Mavericks provides.

Whether students are aspiring programmers, game designers, or simply curious learners, Maker Mavericks offers a structured and inspiring pathway to turn ideas into interactive creations.
