About
Hanlan Boat Club’s 2025–2026 Winter Training Program is a five-month, structured off-season rowing and fitness program designed for athletes of all levels — from complete beginners to experienced competitive rowers. Open to both members and non-members, this program provides consistent coaching, community, and accountability throughout the winter months.
Participants benefit from a monthly, periodized training plan that combines rowing machine (erg) work, strength training, and conditioning. The program offers 10 coached in-person sessions per week at Hanlan’s boathouse, alongside optional Zoom-based group training and independent practice access for those training remotely or on flexible schedules.
In-person sessions are led by Head Technical Coach Horacio Tendilla, supported by Hanlan’s assistant coaching staff. Coaches provide real-time feedback and guidance during structured erg and strength workouts. Sessions are capped at 30 participants per class to ensure quality instruction.
Zoom practices follow the same monthly training plan and allow participants to train from home or a gym using their own rowing machine. Independent practice access allows rowers to use boathouse equipment outside scheduled sessions (with a training partner for safety).
This program is ideal for anyone looking to:
Stay active and fit during the rowing off-season
Train in a supportive group environment
Improve rowing technique and strength
Prepare for indoor rowing competitions
Build consistency and motivation through winter
No prior rowing experience is required.
