Caregiver & Pre-CanSkater is a beginner on-ice program for toddlers ages 2–5 who are not yet ready to skate independently. Each child participates with one consistent adult caregiver, learning early skating skills in a fun, supportive environment led by a certified professional coach.

The program uses simple games, activities, and gentle guidance to help young skaters learn to stand up, fall safely, get up independently, and begin moving forward on the ice. Caregivers play an active role in supporting their child’s balance and comfort.

Caregiver Requirements:

One registered adult (18+) must accompany the same child each week
Adults must wear skates and remain on the ice for the full session
Adults must already be proficient skaters (good balance required)
Adults must wear a CSA-approved hockey helmet unless they can confidently pass Stage 5 CanSkate skills (coach discretion)
Siblings are not permitted on the ice

Skater Requirements:

Ages 2–5
Must wear a CSA-approved hockey helmet
Must be registered as a Skate Canada member

Equipment:

Hockey or figure skates with laces (no plastic buckle skates)
Sharpened blades
Waterproof gloves or mittens
Warm, layered clothing (avoid scarves, long drawstrings, loose belts)

Families should arrive 15 minutes early for name labels and equipment checks. Expect some colour from bingo-dabber ice circuits on clothing—this washes out easily.

This program provides a fun, confidence-building introduction to skating that prepares children for Pre-CanSkate and full CanSkate levels.

Must add TOT first in order to register the CAREGIVER ($0 Skate Canada membership required).

The same adult must accompany the child each week.

CSA-approved hockey helmet required for the child; adult requires CSA-approved helmet unless proficient at Stage 5 CanSkate skills.

Both adult and child must be Skate Canada members.
